In this one-time course, the student will learn how to ask and answer these questions relating to travel: "Have you been abroad?" "What countries have you been to?" "Where do you want to go for your next vacation?" "What will you need to pack? "When is your flight?" "What are you going to do on your vacation?" We will begin class with a warm-up discussion for the teacher so the student and teacher can get to know each other better. Then, we will start the main lesson. There will be three themed segments. Each segment is structured as follows: introduction to the questions the student will learn, a demonstration of the conversation with the student repeating after the teacher, an application of the sentence pattern with an interactive activity, and an extension “free talk” question relating to the sentence pattern. The extension question allows the student to express their opinion and explain their reasoning for their opinion. We will end class with a quiz to test the student’s knowledge of the sentence patterns learned in class. I will use the Total Physical Response (TPR) method when speaking with the student to help explain instructions and concepts. Some students are older and don't rely on TPR as much, so I will use it when appropriate. I believe in giving genuine and specific praise paired with gentle and detailed suggestions for improvement. There is value in all attempts when learning a new language. Therefore, I will encourage the student to elaborate-especially with the “free talk” questions. It’s okay (and good!) to make mistakes. That is how we learn! The lesson takes place on slides that we will view through the Nearpod website. The student will be doing interactive activities and games throughout the lesson. This class is for children who have had about four or more years of experience learning English. In terms of complexity, it is for students at an intermediate level.
Learning Goals
Students will ask and answer questions relating to past and future travels, what to pack for a trip, and the things they want to do and see when they travel. They will gain an understanding of the vocabulary words “abroad,” “vacation,” “pack (verb),” “flight,” “regional,” and “landmarks.”

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a certified in TESOL and TEFL and have taught ESL for 5+ years. I have taught traditional curriculum for ages 3-16 (consisting of reading, vocabulary, speaking, math, etc,) but I have also taught free conversation and storytelling classes. I'm excited to bring my love for teaching English together with my unique ideas!
In addition to teaching ESL, I have taught children and youth ages 3-17 at my local church since 2014, and am a mother to two little boys! There are various personalities and abilities in children, and I am well-versed in providing an exceptional, personalized learning environment for all students on their learning journey.
My students experience significant progress in learning English as a second language because I use Total Physical Response (TPR) to communicate to students with minimal exposure to English. I have taught many children who started speaking English for the very first time in my class! It always amazes me to see how quickly and naturally they pick it up. I am empathetic and patient with students through positive reinforcement paired with constructive feedback. I firmly believe in genuinely observing my students' strengths and gently correcting in a way that encourages them to try again rather than feeling defeated by their mistakes. I have learned French and a little bit of Chinese in addition to English, and so I can empathize with anyone who is adapting to a new language!
I also graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts with an emphasis in Graphic Design at Brigham Young University-Idaho. I have had several clients that I've done flyers and logo work for since graduating. I love to do hand drawing, digital drawing and logos, and watercolors.
In my free time, I like to read, hike, try new recipes, and create art in my sketchbook! I can't wait to get to know you in class! See you there!
