Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
In this class the students will go shopping and then calculate how much change they are to receive back from the cashier. This lesson will cover adding and subtracting decimals to the hundredths place. The students will be using play money to help with this lesson. This will be a hands interactive lesson for the students. I will use google slides to show pictures of items to purchase. The students will choose items to purchase. Then using the Zoom whiteboard, I will model to the students how to add the items that are purchased. Using the play money we will then decide which currency bill is appropriate to pay for the items. Using the Zoom whiteboard I will then model for the students how to subtract in order to find out how much change we are to receive. I will be using the I do, we do, you do strategy for this lesson. The students will be given opportunities to choose items to purchase. Next the students will add the items together. Finally the students will use subtraction to find out how much change they are to receive back from the cashier.
