US Grade Kindergarten - 4
"Go outside!" Have you ever told your child this, only to have them say they don't know what to do, they're bored, or want to go back inside a few moments later? I'm here to help with that! OR, does your child love to spend time outside, and you're always looking for fun new ideas for things to do? This class is for your learner, too! In this self-paced class, we will focus on spending time outside in nature, exploring and appreciating it. The course material is broken into 4 overall themes. There will be Examples include: a nature art collage, journaling or drawing what was seen, nature scavenger hunts, having an outdoor picnic, and more! Videos and explanations of challenges will be uploaded each week. Each video will discuss a different aspect of nature or going outside. Then, it will explain the challenge/tasks for that week. I will give some examples of how they can be completed, but they will also be left open-ended to allow for creativity. Every week's tasks will encourage outside exploration, play, and appreciation of the nature around us. There will be about 3 specific challenges per week, with “surprise” bonus activities each week, found in the uploaded pdfs. Learners will be invited to participate in the classroom each week. They may upload photos or videos explaining their creations or what they found while completing each challenge. I will leave specific feedback on each child's contribution, in either written or video form. Some weeks, this may include showing how many items they found in a scavenger hunt, seeing how many they could find! There will be no “right” way to complete challenges or tasks - and each learners’ unique location will help to showcase different aspects of landscape and geography.
Learning Goals
Learners will gain an expanded appreciation of the outdoors and nature in the world around them. They will be introduced to new ways of interacting with the outdoors and be inspired to simply get outside more often!
