ATS is software developed to sort through online applications and if your learner doesn't know how to navigate its requirements then their chances of getting noticed are next to nil. The same goes for hard-copy applications. Employers/hiring managers look for certain things and can usually tell at a glance if an application is worth looking at. We will learn the difference between a well-done application that will get read and one that will most likely get tossed before even being looked at...
Students will learn: What ATS is and what it means for the applicant What employers look for The basic fundamentals of filling out a job application How to answer the Social Security question Using action verbs and power words to increase the chances of being considered How to fill out the "Work Experience" section when there is no work history Ways to answer the salary question How to be brief but impactful What job-related skills to use Who to use for references How to answer the "Reason for Leaving" section if this isn't your first job Little known tidbits and tips to increase your chances of being considered such as what to wear when asking for an application in person
This is a class module that I taught for several years in a men's minimum security prison as they prepared to transition back to civilian life. Most were extremely thankful for the class and felt more confident after attending it. It is just as important for anyone seeking employment. Getting and keeping a job is vital to a more productive life. It is vital to life in general. It is a class that I feel very strongly about when it comes to preparing a student for adult life and careers. I wish I had had a similar class when I was young.
There is no homework in this class, though learners may want to look up some provided resources/websites
The only required supplies to bring to this class is a smile and respect. When seeking a job and obtaining employment, respect and smiles are a big part of the process. This class is a good starting place.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This class does not do assessments. It is purely an informative class that is given to assist students with filling out applications. Keep in mind, this class will be helpful in filling out not only job applications, but any type of application.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
There is nothing that requires Parental Guidance in this class. Any parent or guardian is welcome to listen in but must stay off-camera.

Hello! I've had a past full of different types of working, learning and teaching and I've loved it all. I feel lucky that I've experienced so much and I want to pass that learning on to others. I believe children should be allowed to be children....
