Class Experience

This is not a live class and will meet asynchronously through the use of posts in the Outschool classroom.

Learn to create unique and personalized movies and clips from your own phone or tablet using the Stop Motion Pro app! Your student will learn how to give life-like movements to their toys and other objects, add voice over, and add graphic edits to their films. I will walk the students through creation in a step-by-step process, teach how to use the basic functions of the filming program Stop Motion Studio Pro, and give tips to develop their expertise in stop motion film making.

The class will be structured around a series of prerecorded videos that include instruction on scene set up, camera settings, filming and post production editing. Students will be required to submit pictures of their pre-filming set up as well as a finished stop motion product. Weekly deadlines will be given to students to show their progress in filming such as scene set up and editing.

The course will be split into four individual week-long phases: (1) Pre-production set up and camera settings, (2) Filming, (3) Editing part 1: Drawing Effects, (4) Editing part 2: Adding audio and publishing. Each phase will require students to post their ideas and to comment on others as well thought the Outschool Classroom portal.

Through the prerecorded videos, students will receive in-depth instructions on how to navigate the Stop Motion Studio Pro app that will allow them to continue filming and producing on their own.

I believe that the only bad question is the one not asked so I will make myself available to answer questions within twelve hours of your student submitting during weekdays. Your student will be required to contribute to the class conversation feeds by sharing their questions and ideas as well as commenting on other posts and videos shared by their peers weekly.

Your student does not need any prior experience with the Stop Motion Studio Pro app nor any experience in making stop motion film. My course is designed to help each student build their knowledge and skills from the ground up.
Learning Goals
Students Will learn how to:
1. Manually set up the Stop Motion Studio Pro program settings based on their lighting and depth of field.
2. Set the stage for their movie scene props and figures.
3. Efficient shooting practices.
4. Post production editing, such as voice overs and adding graphics.
5. Ready your movie to wow your friends.

Supply List
The Stop Motion Studio Pro app will need to be downloaded onto your smart phone or tablet. The smart device will be used to run the program that your student will use to create and edit their films. The difference between the free version of this app and the $4.99 version is that the paid version contains the editing options unlocked where as the free version doesn't allow any edits. You are able to have a finished product with the free version but most of what this class teaches is how to apply the edits.
