Class Experience

Some of the most delicious things come from a street market! Crispy on the outside and coated in a sweet & spicy sauce, grilled Korean rice cakes are one of the most beloved street foods in South Korea. These chewy morsels are addictively delicious. Korean savory hotteok is another treat you won't want to miss out on-- fried pancakes that are stuffed with a vegetable and noodle filling. And who would have thought that French fries and corn dogs could make such a dynamite combination? Especially great for satisfying those occasional junk food cravings, these irresistible treats are the ultimate snack food! These are a blast to create and even more fun to eat. These playful treats make a great game-night or movie-night snack the whole family will devour. Learners will also discuss their favorite state, provincial, or county fair foods, and identify their similarities and differences to Korean street food.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
This course is open to all learners! However, students will be pan frying and deep frying. For safety purposes, I highly recommend parent supervision for this course, especially while learners are deep frying. I suggest using a deep, wide pot for deep frying to prevent splattering.
Supply List
I will supply an ingredients list and written recipe with cooking tips at least one week in advance to the course start date. I also suggest having a wide, deep pot ready for deep frying.
External Resources

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! Guten Tag! 안녕하세요! Thank you for taking time to view my profile.

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in biopsychology. I am also a certified ESL teacher. I have taught learners (ages 3-18) both inside and outside of the classroom for 11 years now. Some of my fondest memories of teaching are from my time living in South Korea, where I taught elementary students and also developed curriculum for my school district. I also currently teach English online to Chinese students. As a teacher, I value creativity in the classroom. I also believe that learning is not just about the end result, but that the joy of learning is in the journey. I enjoy cultivating growth in my students. I want them to enjoy the process of learning, and I celebrate each small success along the way. I adapt my teaching to fit the learning pace of my students, and I believe in quality over quantity in terms of my instruction.

I love learning about other cultures and sharing culture through food. To me, a perfect day consists of 8+ hours in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes. I am an adventurous eater! I have eaten everything that has been put before me to try, including pigs feet, chicken feet, raw octopus, snails, intestine, and blood sausage. I love seeing peoples’ faces light up when you try their culture’s cuisine. Food has a special way of breaking down cultural and language barriers so that we are able to celebrate each other’s diverse cultures and become better cultural ambassadors. Food also opens doors to enriching friendships and relationships. I am excited to help students begin their own journey of learning cultural awareness through food.

Everything I make in my kitchen is gluten- and dairy-free! I have food allergies, but I don’t let that hold me back from experiencing mouth-watering, authentic cuisine from around the world. Because of this, I have a heightened awareness of dietary needs. I will happily make adjustments to accommodate other dietary restrictions as necessary.
