Description
Class Experience
Each week, the goal will be for your child to actively participate in the group and increase their regulation, as shown by improved attention, activity level, and behavior. I would like them to leave each group with at least one new activity that helps their body feel good and relaxed. The long-term goal for this class is for your child to 1. Demonstrate a growing awareness of how their body is feeling and what they "need" to regulate, and 2. Identify some tools/strategies they can independently utilize to promote a more organized, calm body throughout the day and in various situations. As your child's body awareness and regulation improves, so too will their ability to attend, maintain a calm body, and learn.
I am a certified, licensed occupational therapist. I have more than 20 years of experience working with children and individuals with special needs. I am a Sensory Integration certified therapist (SIPT certified), a DIRFloortime provider, a handwriting specialist, and a parent coach.
Learners will be encouraged to use their calming strategies each day and may be given simple tasks or challenges between classes, but formal homework will not be assigned.
For this class, your child will require a larger area of space to work/move in. For example, they will be participating in yoga, completing animal crawls, jumping, etc. They will need a safe place to move about. In addition, we will utilize the following items from time to time: **Water bottle (just in case they get thirsty) *Plastic straws *Cotton balls, craft pom poms, or even tissue wadded up into small balls *A juggling scarf or tissue *Couple pieces of paper and a marker Recommended, but not required: *Pinwheel *Yoga mat depending on floor type
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
