This is a session of multiple days for students who need exposure, practice, or support for the letters of the alphabet, their sounds, and to learn new vocabulary words. This class is also great and inclusive to ESL students.

Class Experience

Hello, friends, and Welcome to Getting Reading Ready! This 5 week course is designed for young learners who need exposure, practice, or extra support with the letters and sounds of the alphabet, as well as learn some new vocabulary words. This course starts at letter "Aa" and goes to letter "Ii". We will meet 3x per week, learning a new letter in each session. The last sessions will be designed for a review of each letter from A to I.

Students will begin with an introduction to the letter...

Students will be able to identify, sound out, and write the letters A-I when prompted. Students will be able to identify words with beginning or embedded sounds of A-I throughout a given vocabulary word. Students will be able to differentiate between 2 given consonant sounds, or the 2 main sounds of a given vowel.

I have both the educational background of a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction for Pre-K through 5th Grade, with an emphasis in ESL instruction for language acquisition, as well as the teaching experience of instructing students in phonemic awareness, vocabulary acquisition, and basic reading and writing skills for young learners. I have 5 years of experience in this very subject area, and have been trained, observed, and instructed on the best practices of teaching students the foundations of literacy skills.

Homework isn't required, but students could practice finding letters in frequent places that they have learned, such as in books, magazines, and newspapers.

Writing Utensil (Pencil, Pen, Dry Erase Marker, etc.)
Something to write on (Paper, White or Erasable board, etc.)

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

2 hours 15 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
