Most learners know that pollution is everywhere - the air, the oceans, and in our soil. But in this class we will dig deeper into the many causes of different types of pollution, including those caused by natural disasters such as volcanoes and floods. We'll learn, for example, how polluting the air could result in acid rain or how polluting our soil might also pollute our drinking water. We will discuss how a nuclear disaster halfway around the world could end up poisoning our food supply,...
Learners should come away from this class understanding that there are no clear answers to the problems caused by pollution. They should, however, comprehend some universal truths, and have opinions about what might and might not work to improve our circumstances concerning pollution.
The instructor has a degree in Environmental Science.
No required homework.
Learners will be assessed based on how well they pay attention and participate in class.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Politics will NOT be discussed in this class. However, students may be asked to assess whether solutions can be obtained without government intervention.
