Class Experience

In this live 4 day art class we will be learning about different methods of creativity. I will briefly talk about the technique we will be using at the beginning of each class and demonstrate it while the students try it for themselves. I allow students to ask questions during class to make sure they feel comfortable with the methods and materials we are using. We will be using acrylic paints and watercolor paints, pencils, markers and paper. I will post the required materials for each class a week before it starts. Learners of all skill level are welcome to join. We encourage only positive constructive remarks when reviewing each learners finished work.

Day #1. Salt Art Fireworks Sky with Watercolors -
Explore the magic of combining watercolor with salt. It is like blending art and science together in this painting class. Students will create a fireworks sky with colors of their choice. The page will come to life with beautiful blends of colors using salt and watercolors.

Day #2. Self Portraits -
Learn how to use a mirror to draw and paint a self portrait. Creating a self portrait may seem scary but if you just go slow and use a mirror it can make it a bit easier. First we will use a pencil to sketch your face and then you can choose from any color acrylic paints you would like to color in the rest. Have a few paint brushes on hand of different sizes, some small and pointed and some larger wide brushes too. Bring a black sharpie or thick black marker if you would like to go over the pencil before you start to paint for a bolder more outlined look. You might be surprised of how fantastic they will turn out.

Day #3 Panel Paintings -
Students will create a story on panels like you would find on a page of a comic book or graphic novel. Tell a story in 4 or 5 panels to express a moment, feeling or a place in time. First think of a story you can divide on to each panel, draw each panel with pencil, outline with black marker and then paint each panel with acrylic paint. See how your story comes to life.

#4. Safari Landscape with Watercolors -
How fun to image being on a safari with the many colors and things you would see. Use a blending technique to paint a colorful landscape with choice of a sunrise or a sunset. Students will learn to blend colors using a light to dark method. Add trees or wild animals to the landscape. Let your imagination run wild.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there!
I teach art, cooking, nutrition and garden science, and yoga and classes about travel and geopgraphy.
I am currently the a garden and cooking teacher at the local elementary school. I love teaching kids about healthy cooking and eating, nutrition, stretching and movement, garden science and art. I have a BA in Art History with a side focus in Biology, a Culinary Art certificate and am a certified Nutritionist and Yoga teacher. I also became a travel agent because we love to travel as a family. I also have a in-home baking company where I bake for people with special diets.
Kids learn best when they are excited about a subject and having fun. That is why I teach what I am passionate about and pass that joy along to the students.
When I am not in the kitchen experimenting with new healthy recipes I love to be outside with my family enjoying nature and traveling the world. We enjoy hiking, camping, gardening and spending a lot of time at the beach.
