This class is the perfect blend of reading, writing, AND art! Your child will be a part of an interactive read aloud with a book about a squiggle line that changes into different pictures. We'll begin our class through a read loud using the book, The Squiggle by Carole Lexa Schaefer. Drawing on my expertise as a teacher an elementary school librarian, I will incorporate various reading skills such as predictions, connections, and comprehension strategies through the book. We will have...
- demonstrate understanding of making predictions and connections - participate in a retell of the story - use creativity to transform a squiggle line into a picture - use writing skills to tell about their squiggle art
As a former classroom teacher and school librarian, this is a lesson I loved doing each year with my students. It always was a well loved lesson by the students as it allows them to connect reading/writing with a story! They have such fun creating something out of just a line! As an educator, I always work to incorporate books into my lessons--it's one of my favorite things to do! This enables me to address multiple standards/skills within one lesson. Having my Master's in Reading as well as being a Nationally Board Certified Teacher has afforded me the opportunity to strengthen and fine tune my teaching so that I can best meet your child's needs. It is my passion to help develop and foster the love of learning in children and gain an appreciation for books! Depending on the age/ability of your child, I will differentiate the writing task so all learners feel successful with expressing their ideas about their creation! This course will be a great way to allow your child show off their imagination!
