In this ongoing 7-week art class, students will discover the basic proportions of the face (eyes, nose, mouth and ears), hands, and feet. They will learn to draw these features realistically using pencil shading techniques.

Class Experience

  • My goal is that students will be able to draw faces, hands and feet realistically from a model or photograph, using the shading and spatial techniques learned; and, even if no model or reference is available, that the student to be able to recall basic proportions so that they can still draw realistic facial features and hands and feet.
I studied Fine Arts, including courses in Art History and Appreciation, at Louisiana State University, and have a certificate from Texas Academy of Art in Houston, TX. I have worked as an art director for a publishing company, and also work as a professional artist, doing portrait art by commission.
Students will need:
Several sheets of drawing paper (a 9 x 12 sketch pad is recommended)
Various graphite drawing pencils (HB, 2B, 4B and 6B)
A blending stump
Eraser
Worksheets will be provided as needed for each class.
