Let's Face It! Drawing Realistic Facial Features, Hands and Feet (Pencil Sketch)

In this ongoing 7-week art class, students will discover the basic proportions of the face (eyes, nose, mouth and ears), hands, and feet. They will learn to draw these features realistically using pencil shading techniques.

Class Experience

In this course, the students will learn and practice techniques for drawing realistic human facial features, hands and feet. The course instruction will include a 7-week study of the basic proportions of the face as seen from different angles, emphasizing the spatial relationships between the parts. Students will practice rendering (shading) each of these features using different pencils and tools, and drawing hands and feet from different angles.

I will use engaging PowerPoint slides and a document camera to demonstrate the drawing techniques, so that the learner can easily observe and follow my instructions. Occasionally, I will provide worksheets with examples and exercises that will be completed in class.

I have a very laid back, patient style of teaching, allowing the learner to move at their own pace, yet still encouraging them to do their very best.

Learning Goals
My goal is that students will be able to draw faces, hands and feet realistically from a model or photograph, using the shading and spatial techniques learned; and, even if no model or reference is available, that the student to be able to recall basic proportions so that they can still draw realistic facial features and hands and feet.
