During this lesson, we will discover the Amazon Rainforest. Learners will learn that it is a tropical rainforest in South America. We will learn about the four layers: Emergent, Canopy, Understory, and Forest Floor. We will learn about many different animals that live in each layer, and listen to the sounds that they make. My lesson is taught through slides, and is engaging through a question/answer style, as well as fun video clips and sounds. There is also a movement/yoga portion where the students act out different rainforest animals with coordinating sounds. We end the class with a drawing lesson on how to draw a sloth. There are print outs for the students to practice writing the animal names, read facts, and to color for after the lesson.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I have been an elementary school teacher for 20+ years!! I have taught Preschool through Middle School, but teaching elementary school and art has been my passion. I look forward to teaching classes that involve science, reading, writing and art. I started out as a first grade teacher, and have since been a substitute teacher in all grades, as well as art, music, media, and P.E.
I have two boys, Mason and Maddox who are 12 and 15. We had a wonderful summer going to Disney World, and most recently visiting Mount Rushmore and New York City! I am looking forward to teaching kids who are excited to learn and have fun doing it! I am always creating new classes for our Outschool learners. Let me know what kinds of classes your children are interested in!
