Students will get a stronger understanding of the egg and the vast number of the animals that enter the world this way. The Book will explore the concept of the uniqueness of each family, and no matter what, you are loved, and you belong. The movement exercise connects the concept in a tactile manner by applying gross motor movements, and explores sequencing for fun and agility and flexibility of the mind. The string art is the final culmination of the lesson. This gives the students the freedom to make their own encapsulated animal in a beautiful egg. The process of wrapping is a fun activity that works their fine motor skills, and spatial planning skills, as they have to envision where there may be gaps that would allow the animal to fall out later if they did not reinforce the structure securely.
The wrapping and decorating will happen during class. A day afterwards, on their own time, they will be able to pop the balloon to expose the animal encased inside the egg. They will be offered an optional printable certificate they are welcome to complete on their own time.
Materials Item 1 string for the egg structure (baker's twine, crochet thread, or embroidery thread - they sell affordable rolls at WalMart) Item 2 school glue diluted with water in a bowl (liquid starch would also work) Item 3 round balloon with a decent size hole to inflate. Item 4 small light item (a large pom Pom, a small toy chick, or small reptile toy, etc) Item 5 ribbon or yarn for tying to the finished egg. Optional: you can decorate the outside of your egg with gems, polka dot paper circles, etc. This would be used on your own time after the course is completed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
There is no written grade. The goal of this course is in exploration of the topic and applying artistic elements to enhance a deeper understanding.
