Class Experience
Each week we’ll learn about a new type of poetry— from pantoum to acrostic, and free verse to haiku. Join us in this special class, where the poet is YOU. In each class we’ll begin with a short introduction to the style of poem we’ll be practicing and then I’ll give you simple instructions to play with writing some poems of your own. Have fun playing with words and exploring new formats and poetry structure. I’ll be there to help and offer assistance as needed during writing time...
Students will learn a new style of poem. Students will learn the structure and step-by-step process for creating their own poems. Students will practice writing their own poems. Students will share their poetry with confidence and receive support from the teacher and other students in the class. Students will practice offering kind feedback to their peers.
No homework is assigned or required but students are encouraged to have fun playing with creating even more poetry on their own at home using the structures and techniques learned in class!
Just make sure to have some paper and something to write with handy! *on occasion there may be a PDF to print and bring to class and you’ll be notified of this the Monday before class. (I’ll also always display it on screen as well.)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students are assessed based on participation and following instructions to create their own unique poems. This also includes being kind and respectful to all other students in the class, as well as towards their own experience of the writing process.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
