Beginner Level
Class: Hair Science Age: 9-13 This is an 8-week comprehensive hair course that aims to provide a well-rounded understanding of various hair-related topics for students aged 9 to 13. Learners will be introduced to hair science and how it relates to them. I utilize Power Points, props, diagrams, printouts, class discussions, etc. Students will also be given quizzes and games to reinforce learning. Throughout each class, I encourage students to ask questions and explore their own interests within the realm of hair science. ******Cameras must remain on***** ****Week 1 Intro to Hair Science**** The importance of studying hair science How hair is an integral part of human identity Learn the anatomy of hair and the science behind its growth. ****Week 2: Hair Anatomy and Structure**** Different layers of the scalp Learn the role of each layer in the overall structure and function of hair. ***Week 3: Hair Growth and Hair Cycle*** Hair growth process and the different stages of the hair cycle. How hair grows and eventually falls out **Week 4: Hair Texture and Types** Explore the concept of hair texture and the various hair types. How genetics play a role Hair textures (straight, wavy, curly, coily). **Week 5: Hair Care and Maintenance** Teach students the basics of hair care and how to maintain healthy hair. Importance of washing, conditioning, and moisturizing hair. Detangling and using appropriate hair care products. **Week 6: Hair Color and Chemistry** Science of hair coloring and the chemistry involved. Hair color is determined by pigments. Different types of hair coloring techniques (temporary, semi-permanent, permanent). **Week 7: Hair Styling and Heat Damage** Impact of styling and heat on hair health. Styling tools like flat irons and curling irons affect hair. Minimize heat damage and practice safe styling. **Week 8: Final Projects and Presentations** Students will demonstrate their understanding through projects. Students will be assigned a hair topic Students will create presentations, posters, or videos to share their findings and understanding.
