Hello young explorer's! The world is a fascinating place and together we will be exploring the wonderful country of Canada. There are so many wondeful things that we can discover together. We are going to have so much fun! (This section is for ages 6-10 but I also have a section for ages 11-14. Please see the end of this listing for that link.) My classes are relaxed and fun. I encourage all students to speak up and but if your learner is hesitant to speak or prefers not to that is okay as well. The contents of the class are listed below, however if students are very interested in a particular aspect then I love to follow their interests and dive into them. During each class students are encouraged to bring paper and coloring/writing materials. Each week students will be provided with blank maps of the country and each province/territory to bring to class that they can fill in or draw on. Some students also enjoy drawing the flags, taking picture notes, making drawings or doodles of interesting landmarks or scenery they might see. The content of each class will be dependant on each location and class discussion. Some examples of class content are: Geographic Location-Looking at a map to discover the location we are discussing. Population-How many people live here? Flags-What does the provincial/territory flag look like and what are it's key features. Capital City-What is the capital and where is it located in the province/territory. How did this capital get it's name? Directions-North, South, East, West. Local Landscape and Environment-Weather and why it is that way. How does that affect where people live? How does this affect local lifestyle? Local Wildlife-What are some of the animals you can find here? Physical Regions-What is the physical region? Why would this be a benefit or detriment to people who live here? Natural Resources and Industries-What does this province have to offer the country and world? Nearby Waterbodies-Is it close to a ocean, bay, lake, river? Local Geographic Terms-Examples are prairie, valley, hill, lake, bay, waterfall, sound, island, gulf, glacier, peninsula etc. Week 1: British Columbia Week 2: Alberta Week 3: Saskachewan Week 4: Manitoba Week 5: Ontario Week 6: Quebec Week 7: New Brunswick Week 8: Nova Scotia Week 9: Prince Edward Island Week 10: Newfoundland and Labrador Week 11: Yukon Week 12: Northwest Territories Week 13: Nunavut Homework is not mandatory in this class so students do not need to spend time on homework unless requested. If you have an older explorer age 11-14 I encourage you to check out the following link. This will lead you to my Canadian geography class of the same name for those ages. This class is more detailed and thorugh in material. https://outschool.com/classes/lets-explore-canadian-geogaphy-13-weeks-around-canada-ages-11-14-lK7yy66P

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome!
When students are interested in what they are doing, learning they will WANT to learn! I hope that your students will love to learn and become lifelong learners. I want all children to feel comfortable, engaged, encouraged and have fun in my classes I have worked with students from ages 0-14 for over 20 years. I have held several other jobs than teaching which I adored but at this point this is my passion.
My teaching experience comes from multiple sources. Online I have taught thousands of children overseas to learn English through VIPKid. VIPKid (now VIPTeacher) is known for their vigorous standards and training. I have also taught for an elite online program, called Synthesis. Synthesis is an elite program created by the one of the founders of Ad Astra. (Ad Astra is the school that Elon Musk created at SpaceX.) I have also taught thousands of children right here on Outschool since 2020.
Offline teaching experience comes from teaching at a Montessori pre-school, teaching swim and gym classes, summer camps and Sunday school. I also have taught students with a wide range of mental and physical abilities. All students are welcome in my classes and I am willing to make accommodations if requested.
My education consists of a BA in psychology, a BA in Conflict Resolution, TESL, TEOFL, over 40 online teaching certificates, mental health first aid certification, and palliative care certification.
I have two children who are everything to me. I homeschool them and we love going on adventures together. In my spare time I love travelling, baking, camping, Disney, swimming, the beach, water activities, working out, reading and all things full of sparkle and glitter! You can always find me taking a course or earning some kind of certificate.
Come join me and let's have an adventure together!
