Class Experience

Do you love Science? In this Ongoing Class, learners will explore a range of Science subjects in a fun and interactive way. This course aims to provide meaningful learning experiences for young explorers.

Each class will include a range of teaching methods and activities that are designed to engage the learners in both a hands-on and minds-on way. Classes will include experiments, Q&A, quizzes, games, worksheets, videos and much more. Some classes will include breakout rooms.  Learners will be encouraged to observe, explore, question and share what they learn. A variety of methods are used to support learners and cater for different learning styles and needs.

Week of 1/4/24 - Introduction to Zoology - zoology as the study of animals
Week of 8/4/24 - Introduction to Zoology - animal classification, including vertebrates and invertebrates
Week of 15/4/24 - Introduction to Zoology - Hands-on activity: creating a simple classification chart of animals
Week of 22/4/24 - Animal Habitats - different animal habitats, including terrestrial, aquatic, and aerial environments
Week of 29/4/24 - Animal Habitats - adaptations of animals to their habitats
Week of 6/5/24 - Animal Habitats - Field trip or virtual tour to observe animals in their natural habitats
Week of 13/5/24 - Animal Anatomy and Physiology - animal body structures, including organs, tissues, and systems
Week of 20/5/24 - Animal Anatomy and Physiology - physiological processes like digestion, respiration, and circulation
Week of 27/5/24 - Animal Anatomy and Physiology - Dissection workshop: dissecting preserved specimens or virtual dissections
Week of 3/6/24 - Animal Behavior - animal behavior, including communication, social structures, and mating rituals
Week of 10/6/24 - Animal Behavior - animal intelligence, problem-solving skills, and learning behaviors
Week of 17/6/24 - Animal Behavior - Observational study: observing animal behavior at a local zoo or wildlife sanctuary
Week of 24/6/24 - Mammals - mammals, including their characteristics, diversity, and adaptations
Week of 1/7/24 - Mammals - mammalian life cycles, habitats, and behaviors
Week of 8/7/24 - Mammals - Virtual tour of a mammal exhibit at a museum or zoo
Week of 15/7/24 - Birds - birds, their anatomy, flight adaptations, and diversity
Week of 22/7/24 - Birds - bird migration, nesting behaviors, and vocalizations
Week of 29/7/24 - Birds - Birdwatching excursion: identifying local bird species and their habitats
Week of 5/8/24 - Reptiles and Amphibians - reptiles and amphibians, including their characteristics and habitats
Week of 12/8/24 - Reptiles and Amphibians - reptile and amphibian adaptations to terrestrial and aquatic environments
Week of 19/8/24 - Reptiles and Amphibians - Visit to a reptile house or amphibian exhibit at a zoo or museum
Week of 26/8/24 - Fish - fish anatomy, diversity, and adaptations to aquatic environments
Week of 2/9/24 - Fish - fish behavior, feeding strategies, and reproduction
Week of 9/9/24 - Fish - Aquatic field trip: observing fish in natural freshwater or marine habitats
Week of 16/9/24 - Invertebrates - invertebrate groups, including insects, arachnids, mollusks, and crustaceans
Week of 23/9/24 - Invertebrates - invertebrate anatomy, life cycles, and ecological roles
Week of 30/9/24 - Invertebrates - Invertebrate collection and observation activity: collecting and identifying local invertebrates
Week of 7/10/24 - Conservation and Careers in Zoology - wildlife conservation issues and efforts to protect animal habitats
Week of 14/10/24 - Conservation and Careers in Zoology - careers in zoology, including wildlife biologists, zookeepers, and conservationists
Week of 21/10/24 - Conservation and Careers in Zoology - Final project: creating a wildlife conservation plan or presenting on a career in zoology
