Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 5
We are headed to the Science Fair! Students will learn about the scientific method and follow the process in order to create a science fair project to enter into a future Outschool Science Fair and/or a science fair in your region. Join me as I guide you through the process of creating a project based on your interests, hobbies, or passion and collaborate with your classmates to brainstorm ideas, troubleshoot issues, and have a safe place to receive and give constructive feedback in a positive and supportive environment. I have over 14 years of experience of judging and coaching students through the science fair process to create award winning projects both on a local and regional level. I have many tips to offer for what has been successful along with many examples to share from award winning projects my own children have entered into various science fairs over the years. Remember that every student will choose their own project idea based on interest, so supplies will vary. Remember this is a Self-Paced class, so there will be no live meetings to allow for flexibility in student participation. I will post at least one video each week giving information about the listed topics and providing tips and examples to assist you with your science fair journey. Learners are expected to post files, videos, and/or pictures of each component of the project each week in order to receive constructive feedback.

Week 1 - Introduction to the Scientific Method, How to Ask a Question, What is an Hypothesis, Explore Project Ideas

Week 2 - View examples, Create Question and Hypothesis, Discuss and list needed Materials to complete project, Write a Procedure, Make Observations and Collecting Data

Week 3 - Conduct Experiment, Record Data and Observations, and How to Write a Conclusion

Week 4- Create a Project to Show off Your Hard Work
