Semi-realism is a fun and unique blend of cartoon/anime style and realism. In this class, I'll guide learners to draw a semi-realistic female face (chin to forehead) using a pencil. I'll help learners with tips for the shape, size, shading, structure, and proportions of the face. This class is great for working on stylization and portrait skills. I will guide learners to follow along with step-by-step directions to create the face, eyes, nose, mouth, and eyebrows. For this class, we will focus on just the face and facial features. Students may continue their drawing after class by adding hair and other details. I encourage students to bring their own creative ideas to their art. Students are welcome to ask questions throughout the class. I am more than happy to expand on a particular step. At the end of class, students can share their drawings. For this class, learners will need a pencil, an eraser, and paper. You can also bring a ruler and any other art supplies to class. Some art experience is beneficial. Students should have basic knowledge of sketching and drawing. There is a male version of this class available. See you in class!
Learning Goals
Students will explore drawing a semi-realistic face and learn tips in shape, shading, proportion, and spacing.

Hello! My name is Kristeena. I teach art here on Outschool, mainly focusing on pencil drawing in semi-realistic and anime styles.
I have 4 years of experience teaching art and language online. After graduating with a BA in psychology, I started working with children aged 9-18 in a residential setting. In 2016, I began studying painting and started worked as a freelance artist. A year later, I began t-shirt design as well. I've been an artist my whole life -- I enjoy working with pencil, pastel, ink, and digital programs.
I love traveling. I've been to 20 countries over the past few years, including months of full-time travel and living overseas. My other interests include anime, cats, and video games (The Legend of Zelda is my favorite).
I like to create a sense of ease and freedom around art. I believe creativity is innate in everyone, and that everyone has something unique to express. In my classes, I encourage students to ask questions, be curious, and interact in the way they most feel comfortable.
