What's included
1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this weekly class, we'll have lots of fun chatting about fishing experiences while we draw a different fishing lure each week. We'll concentrate on soft body and creature baits for these 6 lessons which is Part 2 of our Fishing Lure Series. (In Part 1, we focused on Hard Body Lures). No prior drawing experience needed because I'll lead each child step-by-step through the drawing process and include options along the way, too, especially when it comes to their choices of color. Even though students enjoy telling us about some of the fish they've caught or some of the lures they've used, fishing experience is not necessary to be successful with these drawing lessons. During each class, I'll show the students some of my fishing lure paintings and drawings and will also have a lure to show them. We'll discuss the parts of fishing lures as we draw and encourage student participation. After we finish the pencil step of our drawing, we'll add color & I'll demonstrate some blending techniques. I'll give them some color choice tips to think about as they select their colors for each lure. Students will show us their drawings several times during and at the end of our class so we can celebrate and encourage each other's progress and success.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to draw a variety of shapes & styles of soft body fishing lures and creature baits during this course, with a different lure each week. While we draw them, your child will also learn about the parts of specific fishing lures and the purpose of those parts. In the final step of adding color, students will learn how to make wise color choices for different sections of the lures and some blending tips. The students may even pick up some fishing tips from each other as we draw and chat.
Other Details
Supply List
pencil eraser sharpener paper (sketchbook, drawing paper or even copier paper will work) coloring tools (crayons, colored pencils or twistables) Tip: Markers can give bold color but are not well-suited for blending and shading possibilities Optional supplies: Silver or Gold gel pens or metallic colored pencils for the shiny metal hooks or metallic specks in the design Optional Prop or Reference for your child: a fishing lure in a box or package with a clear side to see the lure without the child touching it. We want every child to be safe and not get cut by touching any hooks on a lure during this class. If you believe it is safer for your child not to have a lure on his desk during our class, please do not allow him or her to have one. (This is definitely not necessary but occasionally a child has a lure similar to the one we are drawing and would like to show the class or would like to use it as a reference as he or she draws.)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Middle Tennessee State University (Bachelor of Science Degree in Educ: Art K-12 & Elem 1st-8th grades)
Hi, I'm Susan Garrison, a professional artist who also loves teaching kids! I've been drawing & painting all my life and teaching children for the past 3 decades. After earning my BS Degree in Art Education K-12 from Middle Tennessee State University, I've enjoyed teaching children 2D & 3D art lessons at my own art studio, online, and in public and private schools in grades K-12 in Tennessee and South Carolina. One of my specialties has been curriculum development at each of those schools. On weekends, my husband and I even work as a team to DJ weddings and receptions.
I love breaking art projects down into bite-size pieces of simple lines & shapes for children as I lead them through the lesson step-by-step, while still encouraging options along the way so that every piece is unique. Choosing a variety of my classes will help your child develop skills and techniques for creating realistic pieces as well as tap into & build upon the beauty of his or her imagination & creative mind. My class offerings include a variety of styles & use many types of art tools & surfaces. Some classes focus on famous artists & their styles to inspire our artwork. Blending those experiences help form a well-rounded young artist.
I delight in helping children enjoy the whole creative process that leads to a lifetime of creativity and not just the end results of a single painting. A child's imagination is valued greatly and will be encouraged in our lessons.
