Week 1Lesson 1Drawing the EyesIn this lesson we will start with a basic warm up exercise to help us practice our drawing and shading of three dimensional objects. Then we will do a drawing of two eyes and the eyebrows.Week 2Lesson 2Drawing the Nose and MouthIn this lesson we will again start with a warm up exercise for basic three dimensional drawing and shading. We will then discuss one technique for drawing and shading noses, and one technique for drawing and shading lips. We will also contemplate the variations that can occur when drawing noses and how changing proportions can change our drawing.Week 3Lesson 3Drawing the full face with proportionsIn this lesson we will begin to explore drawing a full face and understanding facial proportions and where to place the features.Week 4Lesson 4Drawing the Face at an AngleIn this lesson we will practice drawing the basic head shape when the head is facing different directions. We will then cover how to draw the full face with all of the features when it is turned at a 3/4 angle.Week 5Lesson 5Drawing a Face from ObservationThis will be our most advanced lesson. In this lesson I will discuss how to draw a face by observing a photograph. This skill takes a lot of practice to do well, but we can start by developing our skills of observation and learning to transfer our observations onto our paper.
I have a 4 year degree in Visual Arts and have been teaching art students for over 10 years both in person and online.
Students will need basic drawing supplies such as paper, at least one 2B pencil and an eraser. If the student wishes to use multiple pencils of various levels of darkness for shading this is welcomed as well. For the final class - students will be required to print out the reference photo for our drawing.
