This class is designed to support teens who are beginning to socialize and enjoy activities like drawing, coloring, or building. The focus will be on exploring each participant's unique play styles, without any goals around modifying behaviors. The class size will be very small to accommodate different needs. We are a neuroaffirming organization that supports learners with diverse needs, meeting them where they are. Our experienced staff is skilled at exploring different approaches to writing and creating that work for each individual. Each session will be learner-directed. As we work on our own projects side-by-side, participants can chat, share their work, or simply create art together. The instructor will demonstrate drawing on the whiteboard so everyone can follow along. Our approach is strength-based; we will not be teaching or encouraging "typical" play, but rather celebrating each learner's play style. Drawing and sharing our own pictures gives us opportunities to play together. Our goals are for participants to feel more comfortable and secure in social settings, leading to new interactions. We welcome accommodations and are always working to improve accessibility. Please let us know your needs, and we'll be happy to adjust our plans. This is an ongoing, learner-directed social group, so video recordings will not be shared to protect participant privacy. Social classes satisfy BC’s curriculum/BC Ministry of Education for K–12 around communication studies through: acquiring and presenting information; focusing on intent and purpose in delivery; and connecting and engaging with others.

Yvonne has been running social groups for ND/NT kids on Outschool for 6 months. We noticed a need for very small classes and spaces where different styles of play can be shared. As a homeschooling mum to an ND child, I understand the need for social time and that it will look different for every child. I've been a Girl Guide Leader, a musician, an artist and instructor for many years. I have a B.Mus from McGill and have travelled widely. I'm always open to learning and growing and I believe curiosity is a critical life skill.
