In this flexibly scheduled 4 week course students will learn how to successfully draw a variety of eyes and a boy face and hair in the anime style with step by step instructions. We will go over tips and tricks to achieve an authentic anime style drawing. The course will be broken down into different sections such as eye basics, how different eyes can show different emotions, face, hair and shading/colouring. Students will be able to create their own anime boy or use things from anime characters they already know and love! So each students work will be unique.

Week 1: I will give a brief introduction to anime eyes its history before starting the drawing tutorial. This will include the common curiosity 'Why are anime eyes so big!?' and other fun facts. It will be a great opportunity to get the students talking about what they do or don't know about anime and manga in the classroom discussion. Then we will go over the basics and fundamentals of how to draw anime eyes step by step. Starting with one eye to master this first. After students have the basics down we will move onto how to draw them with different emotions such as amazed, angry, confused or in love etc. Students will also learn how to ink the drawings, colour techniques so the eyes look vibrant and bright and tricks to use to make both eyes look equal in shape and size. Students will also receive a brief overview of what the next 4 weeks will entail.

Week 2: Students will learn how to draw a more male shaped eye and how to shape the eye to look more like a villain. Students will also be taught how to draw a winking eye and sleeping closed eyes. We will go over different techniques on how to create your very own anime style when drawing the eye that you could expand and experiment on in future drawings.

Week 3: This week we will learn how to draw an anime boy. Starting with the shape of the face, we will then go over how to map out where all the features will go and how to draw the eyes, nose, mouth and hair in an easy and achievable way. We will go over different hair styles you could add to future drawings and different types of eyes that can be drawn. Students may then use the skills they have learnt in week 1 and 2 to add in their own anime eyes if they wish to customise it further. I will give a brief introduction to some classic boy anime characters before starting the tutorial.

Week 4: Students will colour in their anime face and be taught about different shading techniques and tips using different mediums such as markers and pencils. Students will also be taught how to 'ink' their drawings successfully and other ways we can effectively shade and colour in our anime boy face. This will include tutorials and explanations on gradient, highlights and shadows.

My teaching style is very enthusiastic and I like to encourage my students by praising what they are doing well. I will also sensitively point out where there is room for improvement if they request this. The best way to learn is through doing and so my lesson will be very interactive and engaging. The students will need some plain paper, an eraser, sharpener and coloured pens or pencils, including the colour black. No required experience or knowledge is needed for this class. Just a joy and curious attitude about art and how to draw!

*This is a flexible schedule class. Each lesson will be delivered via a prerecorded video that will be uploaded into the classroom every week. Video time may vary but the work time for students will be around an hour long. Learners will then upload a photo of their art work that they complete each week in the classroom. This way I can check for proper understanding of the techniques and concepts, as well as give feedback to the students. They may share with me privately or publicly in the classroom tab. Each student is required to comment on each others' art works with positive and constructive words in order to to develop a sense of community in the class. They will also leave video clips of themselves describing their art work along with any questions they may have for me and the other students. I will also be using fun questions in the classroom relating to anime in order to create anime and art based conversation between the students!

Why choose a flex class?
- Flex classes are great for students who may live in different time zones (Teacher Harriet lives in London UK)
- They are an excellent choice for families who have busy schedules, or cant commit to a specific date or time
- Students can work at their own pace. Videos can be paused and rewatched at any time

Please note: this is the same material used for the live classes 'Lets Draw an Anime Boy' and 'Lets Draw Anime Eyes!'.
