In this class, students will learn to use different lines (and colours) to draw a turtle, while practicing mindfulness meditation.

The class will meet live one time for 50 minutes and is intended for young learners ages 6 to 10 years old. We will learn about basic lines and mindfulness before creating a fun directed drawing of a turtle. Directed drawings are step-by-step instructions modelled by the teacher to help young artists complete a picture. Students will then be able to decide which types of lines and colours they fill their turtle's shell with. As this project is naturally calming and meditative, we will be practising mindfulness by focusing on our breathing as we draw, while listening to calming music. Students may need some extra time outside of class to finish colouring their drawings. The benefits of this directed drawing class include enhancing fine motor development, introducing mindfulness and meditation, as well as building confidence and independence as an artist.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As I am qualified as a Primary/Junior teacher, I have taught a range of students between kindergarten and grade 6. During this time, I covered all curriculum subjects (math, language, social studies, science, health, physical education, etc.)
I have experience teaching in a high school (Grade 9, 10, 11 and 12) Communications Technology classroom, as well as leading summer camps teaching photography and stop motion animation.
