In this class the students will learn techniques that artists use to their drawings look 3-D. The subject matter will be Pokemon characters. Each student will draw along with the instructor while they learn about foreshortening, types of line, color, shading and background and foreground. This is a hands-on class. The students can ask questions, share their art and receive tips on their drawings while they are making them. We will also talk about Pokemon history and evolutions while we draw. While the students draws with the instructor they will learn about the artist's grid, breaking down objects into simple shapes, and artist terminology such as, aggressive lines, curvilinear lines, artist gesture, and the shading of shapes with value. Most all of the interaction is through discussion while we are drawing and when the students show their work to the instructor. The instructor suggests that the student take the one time Pokemon class as a prerequisite. They are welcome to sign up if they have prior drawing experience. This is not a class for Kindergarten or first grade students because it will be too hard developmentally for them to understand the shapes and terminology. Class 1: The students will draw a basic Pokemon and color it while learning about how to draw with foreshortening, line development, texture and composition. The student will also learn about the Pokemon drawn. Class 2: The student will continue to learn drawing techniques and Pokemon facts while drawing the second evolution of the previous weeks Pokemon. They will understand hoe to look at the basic shapes and then more complex shapes as the second evolution of the character is more involved. The student will learn how to overlay shapes and texture to achieve a 3-D quality in their drawing. Class 3: The student will draw the next evolution of the Pokemon character. They will learn how to use foreground and backgrounds which enhance their drawing and they will learn color combinations that will make their characters POP. Class 4: During this last session the students will bring all the aspects they have learned into the final evolution of the Pokemon being drawn. The student will compare their drawing to the one on the first day in the final critique. While the students learns how to draw the fourth evolution they will also learn about curvilinear line, aggressive line and some foreshortening. This Pokemon will also be colored. The students will continue to practice shading techniques.
