Class Experience

In this class, students will be taught how to draw an adorable corgi using step by step instructions.

We spend about 5 minutes at the beginning of class introducing ourselves and sharing an interesting fact about ourselves. Then students will follow a step by step guide to create their corgi. As we draw together we will discuss techniques and a positive mindset so that students understand that our pictures may not be perfect, but as we learn and practice we may get better! I strongly encourage students to use paper, pencil, and have a good eraser.

If there is time at the end students may color their drawings and students are encouraged to share their artwork with the class. Some students will have the artwork done and some students will not. Please encourage your child to finish after class. Please be sure to post their finish work within our classroom web page.

Please review my class rules and policies:

1) My goal is to keep classes close to the scheduled amount of time, however, sometimes classes with low enrollments or especially talkative students may go over or under a few minutes. If your child is attending a drawing class, if they were unable to complete a specific drawing, feel free to message me after class and I’d be happy to provide a copy of the drawing so they can complete it on their own time.

2) Classes will begin and end at the scheduled times, even if learners are late to the classroom or absent.

3) If no learners are in the classroom, I will wait 10 minutes before exiting the classroom. Per Outschool policy, “If your learners have not joined the meeting 10 minutes after the start time, the meeting may be canceled, at the teacher’s discretion. This is considered a missed meeting and you are not entitled to a refund.”

4) To ensure safety and security, ALL of my students are required to turn their cameras on at the beginning of class so I can check identity. Students will also be asked to speak throughout each class, so a working microphone is required. This helps ensure security and safety, as well. If your child doesn’t feel comfortable reading/responding, please feel free to send me a message prior to class so I’ll be aware.

5) All students may be muted upon the start of class to prevent background noise and distractions. Please familiarize your child with the “Mute” and “Unmute” button in Zoom. If background noise and distractions are at a minimum then I leave the microphones unmuted so we can easily exchange conversation.

6) If a student would like to talk they may physically raise their hand or use the “Raise hand” feature in Zoom. I will try to do my best at keeping a watch out for a raised hand so each student has the ability to ask questions or comment.

7) Parents are not required to be present during class, but it is helpful to be nearby in case your child has IT issues.

8) I follow all Outschool refund policies. https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/16379-refund-policies-and-happiness-guarantee?fbclid=IwAR0ieErrKtfr0xmuQMdKwah-ES2j900RwaConBcC6IrjUG7Nuhaftv2m75k

9) Per Outschool’s policies for multiple learners from your household, “Parents are welcome to enroll two or more learners in the same section of a class provided that the class has enough spaces. You will need to enroll each learner separately for the section, but learners are welcome to share a device if that would make it easier to attend class.
Learning Goals
Students will practice following directions using both auditory and visual cues to create their work.

Hello! I am Mrs. Amber!

Things you may want to know:
- Currently I have active K-6 Teaching Licenses in FL with ESOL and Reading endorsements.
- Graduated from UCF with my bachelors in Elementary Education.
- Classroom Teacher for over 5 years in both Florida and Virginia! I have taught in private, public, and charter schools. All of my classes were inclusive, serving ESOL and Autistic children in a general classroom setting.
- I have virtually taught English as a second language for over 2 years to students in Europe & China.
- Formerly homeschooled my second grader and kindergartener as well as teaching in our homeschool Co-op (virtually) to a wide range of learners.
- Experienced in working with children who are exceptional! This includes students who may be identified as gifted, Autistic, having ADHD, and more.

What are some of my teaching philosophies?
- I love teaching all subjects with a positive mindset! Students are expected and welcome to make mistakes. “You win some, you learn some!”
- Learning should be fun and engaging for my students! My goal is to motivate students to want to learn more. Allowing them to be involved and relate what we are learning to their daily lives helps them remember what we have learned. We often incorporate learning games in the classroom. As a bonus they have a great time and look forward to coming to class!
- With reading, I endorse an approach to early reading that is an explicit and systematic, sometimes referred to as a phonics-based approach or structured literacy. I am studying Orton-Gillingham style instruction based off the Science of Reading to help struggling readers and those with Dyslexia.

Any fun facts?
- I am a huge Disney fan! I also like drawing, singing, cooking, and chocolate. My favorite singer is Taylor Swift, favorite “movie” is Hamilton (I know it’s not technically a movie) and favorite TV shows are Survivor, The Amazing Race, and Big Brother!

Today is a great day to learn something new! I can't wait to see you in the classroom!
