In this multi-day class we will use algebraic concepts, like solving equations and simplifying expressions, to find the missing measurements in right triangles. This is a good introduction to skills that are used in geometry as well!

Class Experience

Students will learn how to use the Pythagorean Theorem and trigonometric ratios to find missing measures of right triangles. We will:

-find square roots and squares of numbers
-solve equations to find missing measurements
-learn about applying trig ratios to find the missing measurement of a right triangle

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Master's Degree in Education. With 20 years of experience teaching in the classroom coupled with 5 years of experience teaching online to students with varying abilities and needs, I feel extremely qualified to deliver this instruction to learners via Outschool. My love and dedication for Pre-Algebra stems from the knowledge that this is such a critical time for students to make the connections of elementary-level mathematics to higher-level thinking that will be key for success in courses such as Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry or Pre-Calculus (just to name a few).
No homework will be assigned, however, students will be encouraged to take notes and review the video as needed. Extra examples/supports can be uploaded to the classroom as needed.
Students should have a three-ring binder in order to keep track of assignments and notes each week. A calculator and graph paper would be nice items to have, however, when possible, I will suggest websites that may have the tools that a learner may need (example: online calculators).
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will provide feedback to students during class time. Additional assessments can be provided as appropriate or upon request.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
