*This class is intended for learners getting ready for kindergarten or who are in kindergarten. The math skills taught are foundational and will follow a year-long curriculum as it is taught in a kindergarten classroom. Please feel free to message me to find out what math concept is being taught on any given week! Although this is listed as a one-time course, each class will focus on a different kindergarten math concept. Some of the standards taught will be: Counting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s Correct Path of Movement for Numbers 1-10 Numerals to 5 in Different Configurations, Math Drawings, and Expressions Working With Numbers 6-10 in Different Configurations (scattered, circular, arrays, etc.) Hidden Partners within 5 Hidden Partners within 10 Addition and Subtraction within 5 Addition and Subtraction within 10 2D and 3D Shapes (Identifying and Classifying) I am a certified kindergarten classroom teacher, and I love to make learning fun! Our learning will involve songs, hand motions, and fun callbacks to keep your child engaged and on task. I use the scaffolding or gradual release model in my teaching (I do, we do, you do) and consistently check for understanding throughout the lesson. It is important for my learners to feel comfortable and engaged, and I want them to be able to ask questions and add to discussions. The classes will be structured as follows: *Greetings by teacher and students *Class Objectives and Expectations *Practice Counting to 100 (either by 1s, 5s, or 10s) *Intro/Practice of Correct Path of Movement for Numbers *Fluency Practice (review of known or previously taught concept) *CGI Problem (this is a quick mental math problem that is solved through drawings and numbers) *Concept Development (this is the focus lesson which will differ each time) *Student Debrief (Discuss what we have learned) *See You Laters!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I am so excited to have the opportunity to help your child learn through Outschool! My classes will focus on beginning, intermediate, and advanced kindergarten skills. Course content will include phonemic awareness, phonics instruction, early reading and writing foundational skills, and math concepts.
I have a B.A. in English from Southern Illinois University and an M.A. in Teaching from Arkansas Tech University. I am a certified PreK-4th grade teacher and am in my 8th year of teaching in the public school system. I currently teach at a STEAM-certified and National Blue Ribbon school and absolutely love my job! I am passionate about children's learning and being able to help them build the foundational skills needed to become confident readers, writers, and mathematicians. I have been trained in several phonemic/phonics and math curriculums. It is so important to me to have fun while learning, so I create lessons that include songs, movement, games, and interactive activities. Building relationships with students is also very important to me, and I want my learners to feel comfortable and confident while in our classroom environment. My classes are very structured and expectations are clear, but I love to be silly and have as much fun as possible!
Aside from teaching, I love animals, traveling, and spending lots of time outdoors! Please let me know if you have any questions about my classes! And thank you for stopping by!
