Description

Class Experience

Research shows there is a significant connection between arts and achievement.

Drawing and coloring develops many talents, such as:
• fine motor skills
• spatial reasoning
• objectivity
• visualization
• self-discipline
• creative problem-solving
Since 2005, Rozine taught cartooning classes to elementary-aged, inner-city children in Chicago and Los Angeles. She is the illustrator, author, and publisher of several all-age coloring activity books. Rozine also has several large-scale murals in Southern California and Chicago, Illinois. She creates a relaxing atmosphere, encouraging connection amongst others, as well as confident self-expression.

Materials are dependent on students' skill level and access to supplies. Any kind of unlined paper will work, but sketch pads will offer the best results for aspiring artists. Pencils and erasers are a must-have. Rulers, templates, or geometric objects for tracing would be useful for students not confident in their drawing skills. The class will be demonstrated with colored pencils, yet seasoned artists could apply the same techniques with watercolors, paint, pastels, or chalk. Some tips will be offered to students not using colored pencils, but this is not a demonstration for first-time painters. Please note: crayons, markers, and colored pens are not great for blending, but can be used if nothing else is available.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students are encouraged to share their work with Rozine and other learners, by holding their artwork up to the camera at any moment of inspiration. Although praise and recognition is awarded to every learner, Rozine stresses the importance of each artist liking their own work. If an artist sees something they don't like, Rozine motivates them to find the solution to fix the problem. Suggested fixes are offered if the student struggles.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
