Let's Dance: Hamilton (Flex Edition!)

Class
Lauryn Morgan Thomas
Average rating:4.9Number of reviews:(564)
In this high energy class, students will learn beginner musical theater style dance combinations to four songs from the musical Hamilton. **While there may be repeat songs from previous classes, they are always new portions of the song and new combinations!

Class experience

By the end of our session, students will have a new knowledge of different types of dance steps used in traditional musical theater choreography, as well as how to piece together different portions of a combination. They will also develop their confidence in performing and using their body in a new athletic way. Finally, they will use their new knowledge of dance to choose which they felt the most confident in and share it with others. And they might even learn a new song!
As a baby, preschool, and elementary theatre and music teacher, I have worked with students ages 5 months to 12 years in this format. I believe that moving our bodies is a great way to keep kids active and discover new ways to be creative, while challenging them to remember specific movements in a piece of music keeps their brains sharp. This is a unique class in that students have the chance to perform Broadway style dance combinations from their living rooms!
Also, students should be in a space where they have room to move (seated with headphones is not advisable for this class!). Students should also wear sensible footwear (no open toe shoes or heels). Barefoot or socked feet are welcome! Please also have water, juice, lemonade, or some type of liquid nearby to stay hydrated throughout class (soda would not be the best choice to stay hydrated!).

The following is OPTIONAL: If the student chooses, they may have costume pieces that are in the style of Hamilton to put on for their video that will be posted to our classroom page. Please note the teacher will not appear in costume to make everyone feel comfortable, and remind everyone that you don't have to have a costume to have a good time!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Some Hamilton songs feature suggestive language and/or profanity. We will avoid these songs in class or use a clean version, but if students chose to listen to the soundtrack outside of class please be aware!
