After introductions and a review of our supplies and the subject of the week, we warm up with a quick drawing and then use our modeling clay to create a fun clay sculpture - something different every week! I will guide artists step-by-step through the process to choose colors, create shapes, and put their sculptures together. They will learn how this clay can be used with other media to make new colors, work with different shapes, and the challenges to overcome. They will be able to clearly...

My goal is for artists to learn how to create fun and colorful small sculptures using air-dry modeling clay and to continue enjoying the process on their own with other ideas!
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and have enjoyed working with vibrant colors through markers, paints, pastels and sculpting with clay and other objects. My personal style is more abstract, graphic, and even impressionistic and this is reflected in my own painting and drawing style over the years. I love this clay and the wonderful way it works! I enjoy sharing fun ways to create colorful and exciting designs with different art media. I look forward to sharing my ideas with your learners and being inspired by them too!
There’s no specific homework, but artists may want to try making other sculptures on their own!
- Model magic modeling clay or another equivalent of air drying clay - Thin paintbrush -Toothpicks - Popsicle stick or similar tools to help mold and maneuver the clay (you may already have other things around the house) - Small scissors - A plastic mat - Ziploc bags - Small tray to hold your sculpture while it dries (can be a small takeout container, tray, box) - Markers - Black Sharpie - Paintbrush and mod podge to glaze your sculpture after it dries (not done during class)
Throughout the class, I will have artists share their work with me to see their progress and ask questions as they arise.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
