In this 8 week art class, students will learn about a variety of arts and crafts techniques, while socializing with each other and the teacher. The topics I will cover will be process art, learning about being an artist and using art materials, and how art is found everywhere in both nature and the man made world. 

The class will be structured in a fun, easy to follow format. Every class will begin with a verbal and visual introduction to the day's project.  I will review with the young artists what art materials they are using and answer any questions at this time. I will provide a step by step demonstration of the art project, while learners begin their own projects. I will provide lots of encouragement and support for each student.  During arts and crafts time, I will also ask engaging questions, such as  “Why do you like butterflies” “Why did you choose these colors” “How does the project make you feel?” Students will be allowed to talk during class, and I will act as a guide to relate the conversation to art. Towards the end of class, artists can show and talk about their projects, while practicing turn taking and complimenting each other. All classes will end with a positive review from me and encouragement to continue to be creative.

Week 1: Bouquet of Flowers - We will use crayons, construction paper, scissors and glue stick to make this beautiful spring artwork.

Week 2 - Rainbow with Happy Sun and Cloud. We will use crayons, watercolor paints, construction paper, scissors and glue stick to make a cheerful sky.

Week 3 - Play dough Fun - Birds Nests! Let's practice forming all different size balls as eggs and make a pinch pot style nest. We will bring to class found outdoor materials to add to our play dough to make a fun, realistic bird nest.

Week 4 - Funny Frog and Chick - Crayons and watercolor paints are needed for this fun draw-along-with-me art project.

Week 5- Spring Birds with Feathers - Draw and cut out a cute bird. We will add real craft feathers and a yarn loop to make a project that you can hang in your window at home.

Week 6 - Play Dough Fun - Frogs! We will sculpt frogs out of play dough and make a lily pad for them to live in with green construction paper. 

Week 7 - Spring Meadow - Let's paint using found materials you have at home. A fork for grass, q-tips for the flowers, and napkins to make clouds in the sky.

Week 8 - Butterfly Garden - we will draw beautiful butterflies using either a black crayon or black oil pastel. Then we will paint the wings using watercolor paints. We will add flowers all around the butterfly too.

Students may continue to work on projects after class, and parents are encouraged to send in pictures of final work.

My teaching style is relaxed, and I like students to be expressive and use their imaginations. Especially in Pre-K and Kindergarten, there is no such thing as a right or wrong way to do art, and I will encourage students to be as creative as possible.
