This on-going class is all about creating intricate mandala patterns without the pressure of perfection. Each week, Rozine will post a downloadable PDF (for reference) from one of her several coloring books. Students do not need to print the image. Rozine will discuss the basics of patterns and organic drawing styles. Learners can use rulers and compasses to create their artwork, but tools are not necessary. Rozine will explain the beauty of organic line work, as well as the satisfaction...
Research shows there is a significant connection between arts and achievement. Coloring develops many talents, such as: • fine motor skills • spatial reasoning • objectivity • visualization • self-discipline • creative problem-solving
Since 2005, Rozine taught cartooning classes to elementary-aged, inner-city children in Chicago and Los Angeles. She is the illustrator, author, and publisher of several all-age coloring activity books. Rozine also has several large-scale murals in Southern California and Chicago, Illinois. She creates a relaxing atmosphere, encouraging connection amongst others, as well as confident self-expression.
Students will need paper, a sharpened pencil, and an eraser. If time allows, Sharpies or black markers or ink-pens can be used to trace over pencil lines. Coloring supplies are nice to have near by, but are not necessary, as the class will focus mostly on drawing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students are encouraged to share their work with Rozine and other learners, by holding their artwork up to the camera. Praise and recognition is awarded, regardless of skill level. Rozine stresses the importance of each artist liking their own work—and if they see something they don't like, she motivates them to find the solution to fix the problem. Suggested fixes are offered if the student struggles.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
