Class Experience

Gnome Sweet Gnome Polymer Clay Art Sculpting for Beginners

In this class, we will work together to learn the steps needed to create each portion of our adorable miniature Gnomes. Different camera views will be used to show each step of the way. We will condition, cut, roll and form our pieces. Then we will assemble our body parts and get them prepared to be baked after class is over. I will go over how to convert our creatures into jewelry, which is an optional step the students can do. The supplies are listed below and are necessary to complete the project. Students may personalize the gnomes after the basic steps and proportions are learned. I will go over how to lacquer the clay after baking if the students want a professional, glossy finished look.

Polymer Bake Clay (any brand you prefer). Only about 1oz. of clay is all that is needed in total....these are miniatures.
(I suggest one color for body, one color for hat, white for beard, and skin tone. Any other colors for accents if you wish)
Basic cutting tool
A small rolling pin or paintbrush handle or anything smooth to roll out small pieces of clay.
A non stick surface to work on (baking paper/parchment paper is great)

OPTIONAL:
Clear water-based Polyurethane, mod podge or gloss glaze for after baking (sold in craft shops)

Other Details

Parental Guidance
**Polymer clay requires baking according to the package direction. (Generally ~275 °F depending on your brand of clay). You may do this after class. Parental help is necessary.
