Class Experience

In this two-part class learners will use their imagination to create and draw their very own fantasy kingdom with knights, dragons, goblins and princesses!

In the first class we will brainstorm as a group various aspects of fantasy kingdoms from what kind of environment their world resides in – is it a cold, northern climate suitable for vikings and snow dragons? Or is it a tropical island inhabited by giant orcs?

We will briefly outline the various parts of our land from heroes to mythological creatures and start to lay out the land, and learn to draw parts of the kingdom including castles, villages and creatures.

This class will teach you to bring your fictional realm to life with simple step-by-step instructions on how to draw authentic fantasy maps. Set the stage for adventure by illustrating domains, castles and battle lines, mountains, forests and sea monsters!

In our second class, learners will have worked on their fantasy kingdom and will showcase their drawing and explain the lore behind their land and creatures. Learners will then explore how to incorporate their fantasy kingdom into short stories, further drawings and campaigns for games such as Dungeons and Dragons.

Learning Goals

Students will learn to use imagination and creativity to develop a world all their own while delving into mythological creatures and fantasy. Students will learn to draw various aspects of their kingdom while learning how to articulate a background and culture for their land and inhabitants.
