Class Experience
Students will learn 1) What plants need to grow and thrive, 2) How to paint a terra cotta pot, and 3) How to create an indoor plant arrangement.
I obtained my Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, MA, from 2014 to 2016. My major was Public Policy with a concentration in Environmental Policy. I earned a G.P.A. of 3.947. My Coursework included Law and Education, Public Institution and Policy Process, Statistical Analysis, Research Methods for Public Policy, Policy Analysis, and Administrative Law. I obtained my Bachelor of Science from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT, from 2004 to 2008. My major was Natural Resources Management with a concentration in Fisheries and Wildlife Management. Other professional certifications include the WA Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) Childcare License for school-aged after-school and out-of-school programs (ages 3 to 13 years). I currently operate a STEM Days program, where gardening is a major part of the program. I have been gardening since I was a kid, and have improved these skills over the years. It doesn't hurt that I am married to a master gardener <3.
Additional resources will be provided. These resources will present additional learning opportunities for students and families.
1 file available upon enrollmentMaterials needed for this course include 1) One pot (terra cotta or other pot), 2) Acrylic paint, paintbrush, container to hold paint, and container with water to wash paintbrush (optional; if painting pot), 3) Seed starter soil, 4) Small indoor plants of your choice for small arrangement, and 5) Indoor garden rocks (optional).
Participation points only.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
There is a list of materials necessary for class participation. Please take a look at the list and gather these materials before the live session. Optional: Students may paint terra cotta pots. If using a terra cotta pot, students must paint the pot at least 24 hours before live session. This gives the pot time to dry. Parents and guardians should provide supervision for younger children electing to paint their terra cotta pots. Use of acrylic paint can be dangerous if ingested. Be sure children wash hands thoroughly after use of paint and painting products.
