Class Experience

Students will gain confidence in the kitchen as they learn how to prepare a new dinner recipe each week.
Please check below or check the classroom for an updated list of ingredients each week. I will post them in the classroom several days before class to ensure you have time to get all the materials needed. ***MONDAY SECTION*** 9/26 HONEY LIME ENCHILADAS We’re making honey lime enchiladas next week! Here’s what you’ll need: 6 Tablespoons honey 3 limes 1 Tablespoon chili powder 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 2-3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (ALREADY COOKED BEFORE CLASS- you could use canned shredded chicken or shredded rotisserie chicken if you don't want to bother with cooking it before class) 16 ounces green enchilada sauce About 10 flour tortillas 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese 1 cup heavy cream SUPPLIES 9x13 pan mixing bowl knife cutting board can opener measuring spoons measuring cups ***WEDNESDAY SECTION*** 9/28 STEAK BITES AND MASHED POTATOES 1.5 pounds sirloin steak (or use ribeye, strip steak, or another tender well marbled cut) Salt & pepper to taste 1 tablespoon olive oil 4 tablespoon butter (1/2 stick) 4-5 cloves garlic 1 teaspoon dried parsley 3 pounds red potatoes 2 tablespoons butter 5 cloves garlic 4 oz cream cheese at room temperature 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon pepper 1 1/2 cup milk parsley for garnish SUPPLIES large pot Cutting board Chefs knife Large skillet Measuring cups Measuring spoons Strainer Potato masher OR electric hand mixer ***THURSDAY SECTION*** 9/29 CHICKEN TACO SOUP Hi everyone! We’re making taco soup on Monday! Here’s what you’ll need: 1 tablespoon olive oil 1/2 of a medium onion 1 red bell pepper 2 (10 fluid ounce) cans Ro-tel diced tomatoes & green chilies 3 cups chicken broth 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1 teaspoon smoked paprika 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 (12 fluid ounce) can corn 1 (14 fluid ounce) can black beans 1 (8 ounce) block of cream cheese, softened 1 large, raw chicken breast (or two smaller) OR 2 cups shredded rotisserie chicken Salt & pepper to taste OPTIONAL toppings- shredded Tex-Mex cheese blend, avocado, cilantro, tortilla strips, etc. SUPPLIES Large pot Chefs knife Cutting board Measuring cups Measuring spoons Wooden spoon strainer
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students may be required to use the stove, oven, and knives during this course. While we will of course learn about safety in the kitchen, parental supervision is recommended.
