In this 3-week class, we will have some time to socialize and spend time investigating some fun STEM science experiments! Our topics will include: germs, taking care of our teeth, apples, sink or float, making a volcano, and what makes things dissolve.

Class experience

Students will improve their confidence in speaking with others and build a sense of community with our class. Students will also learn about some important science topics through hands-on experiments.
I am a certified elementary teacher who has done experiments such as these in classrooms for many years. I also enjoy doing these types of experiments at home with my own young children.
Class 1-Students will need a bowl filled 3/4 full of water, pepper or glitter, dish soap and napkin/paper towel. If students would like to bring their face mask along to class, we can share them with each other.
**In preparation for our next class together, students should also bring: 3 regular eggs (raw, white eggs preferred), 1 cup full of water, 1 cup full of orange or grape fruit juice, 1 cup full of dark colored pop/soda

Class 2- Students should bring their 3 eggs in the cups (that we prepared in class 1), a spoon or tongs, a toothbrush, paper towels/napkins.

Class 3-Students should bring an apple to class with the middle part already carved out (by parents before class). Students will also need a spoon, baking soda, vinegar, and a glass or metal baking pan ( 8 by 8 or 9 by 13 size). Bring also along paper towels/napkins.

Class 4-We will need 1 apple freshly sliced up. The apple slices will be used in class. Students should also bring an airtight container with a lid (that a few slices can fit inside) and the juice from a lemon (or lemon juice). *We will be discussing different types of apples so if your child knows what type of apples he/she has, that would be great! :) We will also put the apples on a plate to observe.

Class 5-Students should bring a cup of milk and a few different types of cookies to class if possible (examples: Vanilla Wafer, Oreo, Chips Ahoy, Nutter Butter Bars). Bring along some paper towels/napkins as well. **Feel free to adjust the types of cookies to the needs of your child's diet. If you don't have cookies, children can use different types of candy.

Class 6-I will be doing a few activities with candy corn/M & M's/Skittles in different liquids. Students do not need to have each of these supplies, as I will be doing them during class for students to watch. However, if students want to join along, we will be using: a cup of HOT water, a cup of cold water, a cup with some white distilled vinegar, a cup with some vegetable oil, a cup with some soda pop. If you don't have candy corn, students can use Skittles or M & M's. Students will also need a spoon and paper towel. It's helpful if cups are labeled or a parent can help children know what liquid is inside each cup.
*If there is extra time, students will be using candy corn or mini marshmallows and toothpicks in this lesson.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents will need to help students prepare materials for experiments. For classes 3 and 4, parents will need to cut apples up according to supply list directions. Parents will need to remain off-camera but help during class as needed will make our time together more successful!
