In this one time class learners will learn what the Winter Solstice is! We will open up the class with an introduction and talk about the season of winter, then we will learn what the Winter Solstice is (the day of the year with the longest night!) We will read a short story written by the author "Starhawk" about the longest night of the year and the children welcoming the sun! In this short story the author tells the story a short tale about thanking the sun for it's life giving rays and being excited about the growing days. In this class students will get to make a drawing of the sun with Teacher Sam and we will talk about how to let our stuffed animals watch the sun in our picture, symbology for the days getting longer. We will talk about fun things we can do for the Winter Solstice, like making cookies, making wreaths and enjoying our families! This is meant to be a creative and social time for young learners to celebrate the season of Winter.
