US Grade 5 - 8
In this class, we will celebrate Pi by talking about the history of pi and show how the relationship between the radius and circumference works. For this class, your child will need A plastic lid (like a butter container lid). It doesn’t matter the size of the lid. A piece of string (the string needs to be able to wrap around the outside edge of the lid) A ruler The class will first go over the history of pi and cool facts about its discovery. Then I will show the relationship of a circle that led us to discover pi. I will then let the students play with the math. Afterward, we will use what we discovered to solve circumference and area of a circle. This is a one-time only class designed to celebrate this awesome day! (3/14 or 3.14) There will be NO homework or preparation needed. Students can have any varying level of knowledge of pi to take this class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
For the past 4.5 years, I have worked at a community college. During that time my job consisted of instructing math classes and working with students below college level math and English. During this time, I saw a lot of students who were not prepared for the discovery and problem-solving element of math in college. Most students struggle with middle school math concepts in real-world applications. Without this foundation of math fluency and problem-solving student struggle with harder math concepts. As my child starts middle math the urgency of making sure she has a proper foundation of math became real. I decided to homeschool and joined this community of home-schoolers.
I believe all students can succeed when they are taught in a style they understand. I would describe my style as Charlotte Mason or discovery, but I feel students need a mix of drill or classical method for
