US Grade Kindergarten
In this ongoing class (15 weeks), students will learn to make new words using word families (CVC words). Blending CVC words together will strengthen your students ability to sound out words and will help build their confidence in reading. A new word family will be introduced each week. After learning the new word family, we will add a consonant, creating several new real and "nonsense" words. Rhyming practice will come naturally as students begin to notice the predictable patterns that come with learning word families. Students will also have an opportunity to read a simple story, poem or silly sentence at the end of class as a way to practice what they have leaned and to build their confidence in reading. These classes do not build upon each other, so feel free to join us anytime! This class is wonderful for beginning and struggling readers and for students struggling to recognize rhyming words.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to build, read and write simple words that have the same ending. Students will build confidence in reading and will have an opportunity to learn with others.

My name is Melissa Goebel and I am so excited to teach at Outschool! have a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. I am a certified teacher who has a passion for teaching Pre-K - 1st grade. I taught Kindergarten for 12 years in public school and for the past 3 years, I've taught virtually as well as in person at a homeschool co-op. I love teaching virtually and I have fun and creative ways to make learning fun and engaging online.
I live in Tampa Florida with my amazing husband and we are proud parents of a 13 year old boy named Jaden and a 10 year old boy named Justin who are both in middle school. We enjoy spending time in the water, at the beaches and in the natural springs found throughout our sunny state of Florida.
