Let's Be Zookeepers at the Orchard Zoo FLEX Pre-A1+ CEFR

In this ESL Animal Science Class, learners will get to know the animal of the week. Learners will discover where it lives and what it eats. ESL friendly - Pre-A1 and above.

In this fun, interactive Science Club, we will learn about a different amazing animal each week. Each class will focus on a different animal and we will find out some fun facts about it, including where it lives and what it eats.  Learners will be zookeepers and get to know the animal of the week at Orchard Zoo. Learners will discover its habitat, what it eats and how to care for it. ESL friendly.

Classes will include a range of activities including quizzes, worksheets, Q&A, presentations, and videos! Learners will develop their own Animal Factfile each week on the animal they learn about. 

Week 1 - Chameleon
Week 2 - Lady Bug
Week 3 - Koala
Week 4 - Geckos
Week 5 - American Beaver
Week 6 - African Elephant

Each week will include vocabulary, comprehension and input. Learners will be encouraged to share their ideas in a variety of ways in class. There will be interactive activities connected with each book each week.

A flex course allows learners to cover material during a time that is convenient for them each week.  Students are encouraged to check in with the teacher weekly via the Outschool classroom, which will allow for more engagement between the teacher and learner.  After weekly lessons, students can collaborate with their peers by replying to the announcements and lesson postings in the Outschool classroom.

Participation will include the Introduction post, discussion posts, assignments, and projects in the Classroom. This allows students to process what they are learning by collaborating with peers and the teacher.  Participation in assignments allows students to practise and reinforce learning.  This also provides opportunities for the teacher to gauge student learning and provide interventions if necessary.  Private messages or classroom comments are usually responded to within 24 hours with the exception of Saturdays and Sundays.

The videos will be available for the length of the course.
