The series "Let's Be Artful, Thoughtful Readers" focuses on a picture book or novel that not only gets creativity to flow but engages readers to be a more kind or thoughtful human in a social setting. This class will be part read-aloud/storytime and part learner's choice of art with social time. Since the theme is about each learner and how they are special and unique, participation/discussion is essential. Due to this needed interaction of the class learners, If the class doesn't meet the...
Hello!! As one of my all-time favorite author-illustrators, Peter H. Reynolds picture books are just beautiful pieces of art. My students have always loved to get their creative juices flowing after reading this sweet book and his many others. Happy Dreamer by Peter H. Reynolds has a wonderful message that is woven through the story and illustrations allowing for exceptional discussion. Throughout the class, I will facilitate discussion on several social-emotional themes such as kindness, individuality, personality, happiness, goals, and wonder. Plus it is a great jumping-off point for being freestyle in doodling and journaling! As a previous elementary school teacher-librarian, daily I engaged with all ages and those with differing abilities, during my storytimes. With that experience, you can be sure your kiddo will learn, wonder, get excited about books and have a blast! As a continual learner (a person always thinking, wondering and asking WHY) -- I strive to inspire all of my students with that same passion--to be curious-minded to the world around them. To be playful. To be passionate. To be Adventurous. To be a mistake maker. To be a learner who has no boundaries! I can't wait to see you in class!
5 files available upon enrollmentOptional: Purchase the book Happy Dreamer by Peter H. Reynolds. He has many wonderful books about being true to ourselves and joy. Required: 1. Several sheets of blank white paper. This can be anything readily available such as printer paper or craft/drawing paper. It can even be a journal or other notebook. 2. Doodle/ Drawing/Writing/Painting Materials: Such as markers, crayons, colored pencils, pens...anything that will allow for doodling. Paint can be used if desired. Again this is not a formal art lesson, rather a time to be social while creating art of the learner's choice after a read-aloud.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
