US Grade 2
Students will engage in epic math battles using the Prodigy platform. Each week students will receive an invitation to participate in an epic tournament-style battle. Students can use their existing accounts or a new login will be created for them. Prodigy is an adaptive math platform that allows students to practice math skills that are tailored to their math level. This will allow students to all play together and against one another while still working on skills that are at their level of understanding. Each week we will focus on a different second-grade math standard. We will spiral through the standards and some weeks we will mix it up with no standard assigned. Because the platform is adaptive students can join and leave as they wish. Each lesson Greetings Introduction on Zoom of what Math topic we will work on (10 minutes or less) Either using the Prodigy App or https://www.prodigygame.com/ students will log into their accounts. Students will spend the remainder of the class chatting on Zoom, finding one another, and battling others using their math skills. Students will take turns sharing their screens if they wish during their battles. At the end of each week, parents will be sent a report with their student's progress.
Learning Goals
Students will work through all of the standards for second grade math. These topics will spiral, so they will experience the different topics at different points.

Hello!
My name is Jamie Nelsen, I am currently a reading coach and interventionist at an International School. I have taught students from pre-k (age 4) to 5th grade full time in the classroom, as a homeroom teacher. I am my 9th year of full time teaching, and I have also worked as a substitute teacher in Orlando Florida for 2 years. The past 9 years I have been working in international schools around the world, I have experience with both the Common Core and the British National Curriculum.
I love traveling the world and teaching internationally allows me to do this. I work with students to develop their independence and ability to learn skills by thinking through problems instead of asking for help. I believe that every child needs to be given the skills that they need to be successful, which include learning how to learn so that they can discover their own interests and learn more about it in a powerful, meaningful way, that will encourage lifelong learning!
I recently finished my Master's degree in Educational Technology and I am passionate about technology integration into learning!
