Class Experience

Students will improve their understanding of baking with different techniques and learn about each ingredient in this recipe, for example, why we use flour and baking powder.  We'll learn some benefits of eating pumpkins, walnuts, raisins and bananas, and what nutritional value they have!   We'll learn about pumpkin pie spice and what's in it!   Students will leave class feeling excited that they made such a delicious loaf of seasonal bread that they will want to experiment with other recipes using some of the knowledge and inspiration from this class!  
A one-page printable handout will be provided in the classroom before class begins with the recipe. Please have the following ingredients and measuring tools and kitchen supplies ready before class begins. We will measure everything together as a class. Ingredients: 2 medium ripe bananas, mashed 1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling) 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice 2 large eggs, room temperature 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, optional 1/2 cup raisins, optional 1/2 cup vegetable oil 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup white sugar 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon salt cooking spray Kitchen Tools: 9x5 inch loaf pan whisk rubber spatula fork or potato masher small mixing bowl medium mixing bowl large mixing bowl measuring spoons measuring cups wire cooling rack toothpicks
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
