Students will learn how to make a dessert bar that will quickly become a new favorite! Magic Bars have been around for a long time and these have been one of my favorites since I was little. I'm excited to bring this classic to Outschool! This class will be taught live. We'll make the magic bars as a class, pop it in the oven all together, set our timers, and then class will end. This class will be discussion-based and we'll get to know each other! Students are not required to have...
Students will improve their understanding of baking and learn about each ingredient in this recipe. For example, we'll learn what condensed milk is and how it's made! We'll learn some benefits of eating coconuts and walnuts, and what nutritional value they have! Students will leave class feeling excited that they made such a delicious tray of magic bars that they will want to experiment with other recipes using some of the knowledge and inspiration from this class!
Please have all of your ingredients, kitchen tools and measuring supplies ready before class begins. We will measure everything together as a class. Ingredients: 1 sleeve of graham crackers (enough to make 1 1/2 cups of crumbs) 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature 1 cup chocolate chips 1 cup butterscotch chips 1 cup sweetened flaked coconut 1/2 cup walnuts (can increase to 1 cup if you wish) 1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk cooking spray Kitchen Equipment: large ziplock bag measuring cup can opener 9x13 inch baking pan small saucepan (no lid) rubber spatula cutting board and knife (for chopping walnuts)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
