In this one-time course, students will learn how to bake out-of-this-world lemon bars layered with buttery shortbread, and sweet and tart lemon curd that everyone will remember!

Class Experience

Students will improve their understanding of baking and learn about each ingredient in this recipe.  We'll learn some benefits of lemons and why they're good for us.  Students will leave class feeling excited that they made such delicious bars and want to make other recipes!  
Students will be asked to upload a picture of their final product as their homework assignment.  
A one-page printable handout will be posted in the classroom with the recipe to make at any time. Please have the following supplies and ingredients measured out before the start of class: Ingredients: 1 cup lemon juice, freshly squeezed (about 4 lemons) 2 tablespoons of lemon zest (about 2 lemons) 6 large eggs, room temperature 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract 1 cup of butter, melted 3 1/2 cups of sugar, granulated. Divide in 2 sections (1/2 cup and 3 cups) 1 tablespoon of powdered sugar 3 cups of flour, all-purpose. Divide in 2 sections (1 cup and 2 cups) Supplies: whisk mixing spoon or rubber spatula medium-sized mixing bowl large mixing bowl sifter for dusting the powdered sugar on top parchment paper 9x13 inch glass pan wire cooling rack large, airtight container for storage wax paper (optional) for layering the bars in the storage container
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 15 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
