Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
In this weekly, ongoing Mario memory math club we take turns playing a memory game that is Mario themed and solve math problems with each match. While individually taking turns to identify pairs and solve each equation, students will also work together to solve the math problems that accompany each image. Each week we will focus on a specific math skill including: solving simple addition equations, solving simple subtraction problems and introducing fractions by learning how to read fraction pies and learning the correct way to pronounce fractions. We will also practice our 0 and 1 multiplication facts. We will play as many games as time permits and work together to help our friends if they need a hand. This class is great for students who love Mario and all of his friends (and a couple enemies too!)

My class setting is a relaxed, fun, open space for students to be able to discuss and express their thoughts about what we are learning. I encourage student interaction with not only myself but with their fellow classmates. Everyone is expected to be respectful and listen to one another but also feel like they have the ability to share their own thoughts and opinions. I believe learning should be fun and try to provide a space for that to happen.

Hi! I love to teach classes that are fun and promote discussion and creativity. In all of my classes I mix critical thinking with out of the box thinking so that the kids learn something brand new! I find the best way to do this is by using books, video games, trivia and other interactive components to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.

My passion for critical thought stems from my degree in Philosophy. The integration of pop culture in my classes is rooted in a lifetime of toy collecting, video game playing, and during my time as a staff writer for an online comic book review site. Over the past five years I have created community-based, pop-up craft classes for parents and children that integrate culture and thought, and I am excited about the opportunity to share these types of activities with my students!

Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband, son, two cats and puppy! I love online gaming and spending a lot of time crafting.
