What's included
1 live meeting
35 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this one-time session, students will plan, create, and discuss their own self-portraits using the materials and art style of their choice. Class will begin with a quick hello song to greet each learner by name. We will then briefly look at and discuss examples of self-portraits across time, place, and art styles to gather inspiration for planning out our self-portraits. We will utilize whatever art materials we have at hand and whichever techniques we so choose to create unique depictions of our own faces. Students will have access to a self-portrait template that they may print out to assist in their creative process if they find this helpful. They may also choose to refer to a mirror, if one is available in your learning space! At the end of our session, we will discuss our artwork with our new friends before signing off for the day. I value an emergent teaching style, in which I respond to student interests and preferences as much as possible during the course of each session. As such, the order and content of each activity may be modified to ensure that each young learner is as developmentally supported and intrinsically motivated as possible.
Learning Goals
-Students will practice their observational and conversational skills via a series of interactive discussions and activities.
-Students will flex their creative arts capabilities by creating their own self-portraits.
-Students will strengthen their fine motor skills via interaction with art materials available in their space.

I'm so excited to meet you! My name is Miss Brittany, and I am a facilitator of early learning experiences for children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. I have been teaching at the preschool level for 10 years now, and I am very lucky to have joined children at work and play in many contexts and in a wide variety of settings: lab school, private, public, non-profit, home-based, co-op, and virtual. I hold my MS in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College at Boston University and professional licensure in Early Childhood Education, English as a Second Language, Moderate Disabilities, and Sheltered English Immersion through the state of Massachusetts.
I believe that young children learn best when they have an active hand in designing their own learning experiences. I like to plan a wide array of developmentally appropriate, interactive early academic activities for a virtual learning session (for example, counting games, sing-alongs, show-and-tell, and guided meditation), then select the activities that are most appealing to the group of children in front of me in that moment. I also believe in honoring the whole child, and value the inclusion of read-alouds and conversations that center and celebrate each student's unique identity. I encourage children to get up and move around, engage with toys in their environment, and to practice drawing both with the group and whenever they so choose--in my experience, a multitasking preschooler is still engaging with our class!
In my free time, I love to sing and dance, watch movies, and keep up on the latest parenting and teaching research. I thrive on constructive feedback that allows me to further fine-tune my classes to create the most meaningful sessions possible for your young learner. I will respond to any communications from families within 24 hours of receiving a message. I am looking forward to getting to know you!
